Waste cardboard packaging material, wood, garden string, bamboo, found objects.

Drawing on the history of folk costume and accompanying community traditions this performance piece was an exploration into how traditional costumes were made, what materials were used and why, as well as the communal element to the making and wearing of them and how this might be relevant in the modern day. With particular interest in the relevance of fear and humour in response to the character we created.

The making of the work was done in collaboration with community groups at Red Door Studios East Ham and through workshops at Newham Unlocked festival. An actress was brought in to help develop the character and physical traits of the creature. This was further explored in several performances during the festival and the work was exhibited at Red Door Studios.

Commissioned by Applecart Arts for Newham Unlocked. Collaboration between Elizabeth and Alberta Jones.
